On the establishment of the international prize named after Muhammad Rizo Ogakhi in the field of literary translation
In order to provide comprehensive support for the translation of the best works of Uzbek literature into foreign languages and examples of world literature into the Uzbek language, and to provide worthy incentives for talented translators who are fruitfully engaged in creative work, further improving the level of literary translation, as well as implementing the initiatives put forward at the extended meeting of the Republican Council on Spirituality and Education held on December 22, 2023:
- To approve the proposal of the Writers’ Union of Uzbekistan, the Agency for Information and Mass Communications, the Academy of Sciences, and the Republican Center for Spirituality and Enlightenment to establish the International Prize named after Muhammad Rizo Ogakhi in the field of literary translation (hereinafter referred to as the International Prize).
- To determine that competitions for the International Prize shall be held every two years starting in 2025 and that winners shall be identified in the following areas:
– the best translation of prose works of Uzbek literature into foreign languages;
– the best translation of poetic works of Uzbek literature into foreign languages;
– the best translation of Uzbek children’s literature into foreign languages;
– the best translation into Uzbek of prose works created in foreign languages;
– the best translation into Uzbek of poetic works created in foreign languages;
– the best translation into Uzbek of examples of children’s literature created in foreign languages.
- Establish that:
each of the winners of the International Prize shall be awarded a special diploma, a badge and a one-time cash reward in the amount of 300 times the basic calculation amount;
The International Prize shall be presented to the winners of the competition in a ceremonial setting.
- To approve the composition of the Council of the Muhammad Rizo Ogakhi International Prize in the field of literary translation in accordance with the appendix.
To the Council of the International Prize (A.N. Aripov):
by October 1, 2024, to approve the drafts of the special diploma and badge of the International Prize, and also to create an official website;
to organize the popularization of the International Prize among creative organizations, translators, writers and poets through its wide promotion in domestic and foreign mass media, the Internet and social networks;
to establish the activities of working groups to review the works of applicants, consisting of qualified specialists and writers, to determine and award the winners taking into account the conclusions of these working groups, the opinions and judgments of the general public; to organize ongoing active creative cooperation with the winners of the International Prize.
Establish that the Writers’ Union of Uzbekistan is the working body of the Council of the International Prize.
- The Cabinet of Ministers shall approve the Regulations on the International Prize named after Muhammad Rizo Ogakhi in the field of literary translation within one month.
- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs shall assist in the wide popularization of the International Prize in foreign countries and in inviting foreign participants recognized as winners to our country.
- To establish that the costs associated with the organization and holding of the competition for the International Prize, including the implementation of the measures defined in paragraph 3 of this resolution, shall be covered by funds, allocated to the Union of Writers of Uzbekistan according to the budget of the Target Fund for the support of the sphere of spirituality and creativity, as well as funds from organizers and other sources not prohibited by legislative acts.
- Recommend that the National Information Agency of Uzbekistan, the National Television and Radio Company of Uzbekistan and other mass media widely cover the events carried out within the framework of the implementation of this resolution.
- Control over the implementation of this resolution shall be assigned to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan A.N. Aripov.
